Prof. Lee has been awarded the Outstanding Research Award of National Science Council (NSC) in 1999 and 2002. This is the third time for him to receive this award. Prof. Lee devoted himself to investigating the optoelectronic semiconductor material and devices, nano-materials and devices, and solar cells. His fundamental and innovative researches include the analysis of physical properties, the investigation of devices' performance, and the establishment of academic mechanism and theoretical models and. He has developed three innovative systems to engage in academic research, included (1) the “Photoelectricalchemical (PEC) oxidation system”. This system can be used to directly grow high quality and high isolated oxide layer on the III-V semiconductor as the gate insulator of MOS devices. The performance of the unique GaN MOS-HEMTs achieved a leading position in the world, (2) the “vapor cooling condensation system”, which can be utilized to deposit high quality intrinsic ZnO films with low defects. Consequently, stable p-ZnO films can be created from the intrinsic ZnO films by doping acceptors. The evaporated intrinsic ZnO films, p-ZnO films, and resulting devices were unique achievement in the world. The developed ZnO-based films were applied in optoelectrical devices and biosensors, and (3) the “laser-assisted plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition”. In the deposition process of the film growth, the reactive gas was simultaneously decomposed by the energy of laser and plasma, which could significantly reduce the Si-H bonds and Ge-H bonds in the Si and SiGe films. In view of the academic research results, the research achievement has attracted great interest from the domestic and foreign academic institutions, research institutes and industry. He was invited to participate in the research and implemented the cooperation projects by the National Research Council, Canada; National Center of Scientific Research, France; Siberian Branch Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia and University of Delhi, India. Prof. Lee has published many high quality papers. From 1995 to now, he has published 293 papers in SCI journal with H-index of 28 and cited times of 2797, and 307 conference papers. He was also invited to write one Chinese book and one chapter in each of three English books.
According to the academic achievement, he was awarded the Chair Professor of National Research Council, Canada (2002), Optical Engineering Medal of The Taiwan Photonics Society (2002), Distinguish Service Award of The Electronics Devices and Materials Association (2002), Distinguish Electrical Engineering Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering Society (2003), Distinguish research professor of National Cheng Kung University (2004-2012), IEEE Electronic Devices Society Fellow and IEEE LEOS Fellow (2009), IET Fellow (2011), Distinguished Engineering Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Engineers (2011), Yu-Ziang Hsu Scientific Chair Professor (2011), Kwoh-Ting Li Honorary Scholar Award (2011), Chair Professor of National United University (2011), Chair Professor of Da-Yeh University (2011), and Chair Professor of National Cheng University (2012). |
In addition, Prof. Ching-Ting Lee has transferred many research results to enhance the performances of the company's products, which won him the technology transfer and industry-university cooperative achievements merit award of National Cheng Kung University (2010).
Fan-Tien Cheng, Chair Professor of Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering as well as Institute of Manufacturing Information and Systems, National Cheng Kung University, won the 2013 “Outstanding Research Award” of National Science Council (NSC). This is the third time for him to receive this award (2006, 2009, and 2013). Professor Cheng has dedicated himself to the academic research and industrial application of manufacturing automation and e-Manufacturing for decades with great achievements. The evaluation process for the candidates of the “Outstanding Research Award” was so strict that it would be a great honor to be nominated for this award. Till now, Professor Cheng has won the “Outstanding Research Award” for three times. It is not hard to tell how brilliant his achievements are on the field of automation. His research achievements have made significant contribution to the research and development of our country. |
Professor Cheng plays a leading role in the global academic field of Virtual Metrology (VM)-related research. The research achievements of his 16 VM-related journal papers won him numbers of invention patents from ROC, USA, Japan, China, and Korea. These patents have formed a complete patent map that is not easy to be surpassed by any other research group. Moreover, he has done 11 technology transfers successfully to several semiconductor, TFT-LCD and solar-cell fabs. His papers, patents, and technology transfers all make great contributions in the academic research and industrial development. Apart from three times of winning the “Outstanding Research Award” in 2006, 2009, and 2013, other important honors and awards are as follows: (1) “2011 Award for Outstanding Contributions in Science and Technology” of the Executive Yuen, Taiwan, ROC; (2) “2006 Outstanding Industry-University Cooperation Award” of NSC, Taiwan, ROC; (3) the Gold Medal of Invention Award of “2012 National Invention and Creation Award” of Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan, ROC; (4) the “2008 University Industry Economy Contribution Award - Individual Award from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan, ROC; (5) Industry-University Cooperation Award of Ministry of Education, Taiwan, ROC; (6) the 17th TECO Award of TECO Technology Foundation; (7) Chair Professor of National Cheng Kung University; (8) 2013 IEEE Inaba Technical Award for Innovation Leading to Production of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society; (9) IEEE Fellow; (10) IEEE ICRA 1999 Kayamori Best Automation Paper Award & IEEE ICRA 2013 Best Automation Paper Award. The awards above show that the academic and industrial automation manufacturing technology achievements of Professor Cheng not only stand out in Taiwan but also win him high-level of international approval.
