Dean Pau-Choo Chung continuously explores the application of neural network structure in the research field of Neural Network Computers. Her influential research is aimed at the search for human-beneficial applications. Dean Chung applied this neural network technology into the medical interdisciplinary field and successfully established ‘Alovas’- an AI digital pathological image analysis platform which can assist pathologists in diagnosis and analysis. Due to her extensive contributions and accomplishments in the information and communication industry, Dean Chung has been awarded the 2021 Outstanding ICT Elite Award. This prestigious award symbolizes the crowning glory of the information and communication industry in Taiwan!

 

Brief Introduction of Professor Pau-Choo Chung

Professor Pau-Choo (Julia) Chung received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University, USA, in 1991. She then joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, in 1991 and has become a full professor since 1996. She was elected Distinguished Professor of NCKU in 2005 and received the Distinguished Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering in 2012. She served as the Director of Institute of Computer and Communication Engineering (2008-2011), the Vice Dean of College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (2011), the Chair of Department of Electrical Engineering (2011-2014), and the Director of Computer and Network Center (2019-2021). She is currently the Dean of College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Dean of Miin Wu School of computing as well.

Professor Chung’s research interests include computational intelligence, machine learning, medical image analysis, pattern recognition and pathology image analysis. She focuses on Whole Slide Image (WSI) pathology image analysis and has built ALOVAS platform. She served as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Network and Learning Systems and an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems. Currently she is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence.
